Favor boxes are my favorite party favors of all time because you have so many styles to choose from, as many fillings to choose from, and the boxes are typically a fraction of the cost of other types of favors. In fact, many favor boxes start as low as 60 cents per box. And favor boxes are a lot like receiving a beautifully wrapped present and we all know that presentation is key to the success of many a gift and many a party.

First let's talk style. Favor boxes come in a variety of styles including elegant, whimsical, cute, stylish, and many more so you shouldn't have any trouble finding something that fits your style and event perfectly! (Wedding favor boxes are extremely popular!) Also, many favor boxes function as place card holders too - that can be a real help and a cost saver too.

Filling Choices:

Edible: Everyone loves receiving edible favors! And edible fillings can be quite inexpensive if you need to stick to a strict budget. The traditional fillings include Jordan almonds, gold or silver wrapped chocolate candies (think gold wrapped chocolate coins or Hershey Kisses), or one or two chocolate truffles. If you want to get decadent - you can put one oversized chocolate truffle in each bag like those made by Joseph Schmidt (type his name into search bar to find his website). M&Ms, jelly beans, and heart shaped candies (chocolate or other) also are perfect for favor bags. If you want it provide a homemade treat, think about putting mini-sized cookies in the boxes. Just take your favorite cookie recipe and bake them up into miniatures instead of the size you typically bake. You can bake them two months in advance and keep them frozen until the day before or the morning of your event. Perhaps you could even enlist a good friend to fill the favors boxes for you since you will, undoubtedly, be extremely busy with other preparations.

Non-Edible: Flower seeds are increasing in popularity as a favor box filler. Remember not to put them in loose. Instead put the seeds in a labeled small envelope or snack-size Ziploc bag. You may also want to include planting instructions. Some people choose to put a small keepsake in the boxes such as a crystal figurine. You will probably want to set it on a little tissue paper first so it doesn't move around so much. A nice smelling, small candle laid on tissue paper makes for an elegant filling. Small paperweights or key chains are also appropriate.
